Boxes
I started the series of boxes in 2023 by recycling materials I had at home.
The box interests me because it is both a very ordinary object and an object loaded with meaning. Its exterior, visible to everyone, represents what we show in public and what is expected of Arab identity. The Arabic writing and the manufacturer’s logo that were once on the lid have been scratched away. Yet their absence remains visible.
Inside is a more intimate world, one that can only be discovered by opening the box or taking the time to look closely. Here, I represent the fears, desires, and joys of life within Arab society in Israel. The box has thus become a way for me to explore identity, what we show and what we keep inside, while also reflecting my own experience.
